I began my teaching career in January 2004 and have spent more than two decades working with students while continuously advancing my expertise in English and literacy instruction. Throughout this time, I have taught a wide range of courses and supported many different types of students, each with their own unique learning styles and needs. I am deeply committed to meeting students where they are, designing instruction that reflects their individual interests and goals, and fostering an environment that celebrates progress and growth.
Being an avid, life-long reader myself, when I realized how many of my students needed targeted support with reading, I decided to pursue a master’s degree in Reading Instruction, along with Reading Specialist certification. This progressed into also earning my ESL Certification and eventually becoming a LETRS-certified educator as well. Through these programs and continuing education, I have had the privilege of helping students move beyond their preconceived notions about reading and writing to find not only academic success in these areas but also genuine curiosity and enjoyment.
While the majority of my classroom experience has been at the high school level, I have also spent several years tutoring students in grades K–12. My tutoring work has spanned a wide range of subjects and goals, from foundational skills such as elementary spelling and math to advanced support with SAT/ACT preparation and college essay development. Allowing a more personalized focus, I have found that one-on-one tutoring can often be the missing piece that students need to excel.
As a parent of both an elementary and a high school student, I am also dedicated to working closely with families and value open communication. I find this partnership to be a key component of effective instruction and enjoy the collaborative experience. I look forward to any opportunity to help families and students reach their full potential.
With over 20 years of experience in the field of education, I have dedicated my career to supporting students with diverse learning needs. I began my career working with elementary-aged students with a wide range of disabilities, an experience that shaped my commitment to individualized instruction and strong student advocacy.
For more than 15 years, I have worked closely with high school–aged students, helping them navigate academic, behavioral, and transition challenges while preparing for life beyond school. A key focus of my work is developing meaningful, individualized goals and using data-driven practices to monitor progress and guide instruction. As a Certified Special Education Teacher, Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a LETRS-certified educator, I am able to provide specialized expertise in behavior analysis and literacy instruction to support students in reaching their full potential.
I am a passionate advocate for ensuring students receive the services and supports they need to succeed. My perspective is shaped not only by my professional experience but also by my role as a parent. Having worked on both sides of the educational system, as both a teacher and a parent, I understand the importance of collaboration, communication, and thoughtful advocacy to help every child get the most out of their educational experience.
